Ship Programs

Military Sealift Command is organized around four programs representing primary business operations:

Worldwide Locations

MSC has five area commands, each headed by a U.S. Navy captain, covering the Atlantic, Pacific, Europe, Central and Far East areas of responsibility. Area commands are the MSC commander's direct links to MSC ships, providing maintenance, logistics and port services.

Subordinate Commands

Military Sealift Fleet Support Command (MSFSC) is responsible for the crewing, training, equipping and maintaining of MSC government-owned, government-operated ships worldwide.

Doing Business with MSC

MSC's Business Development Group's mission is to facilitate the rapid development of new business opportunities.

Double Underway Replenishment

Operations & Plans provides ship operations oversight, develops operational readiness policies, and performs long range strategic, deliberate and contingency planning to ensure a seamless transition from peace to war.

The Engineering Directorate manages MSC's engineering programs, provides in-service engineering support to MSC ships, reviews engineering performance of MSC ships and advises the command on ship material readiness. The directorate also provides naval architecture, marine engineering and electrical engineering management to the MSC fleet and manages the command's safety and occupational health program.

MSC Reservists

Reserve Programs

MSC has access to nearly 1,400 selected U.S. Naval Reservists assigned to 39 reserve units nationwide. The reservists are managed by the Reserve Programs department at MSC headquarters.
